Three Rings for the Elven Kings under the sky
Seven for the Dwarf Lords in their halls of stone
Nine for mortal men doomed to die
One for the Dark Lord on his Dark Throne
In the land of Mordor where the Shadows lie
One Ring to rule them all
One Ring to find them
One Ring to bring them all
And in the darkness bind them
In the land of Mordor where the Shadows lie
The Rings of Power were given to Elves, Dwarves and Men so that they could rule and govern their respective races. The Dark Lord Sauron forged One Ring and poured his cruelty into it. With this One Ring, he ruled all of Middle Earth. He was defeated in battle, but the Ring was not destroyed.
Now, 3000 years later, a hobbit named Frodo Baggins from the Shirehas been appointed the task of taking the Ring into Mordor, where it was forged, so that it can be destroyed.
At the Council of Lord Elrond, in Rivendell, dwelling of the Elves, 8 others are selected to go with him. Two are men, one is a dwarf, three are also hobbits, one is a wizard, and the final one is an elf. From the race of men, Aragorn, son of Arathorn and Boromir, Lord of Gondor; for dwarves, Gimli, son of Gloin; from the Shire, Samwise Gamgee, Peregrine Took and Meriadoc Brandybuck; the wizard, Gandalf; and Legolas, son of Thranduil, a Sindarin elf from Mirkwood.
They are known as the Fellowship of the Ring.

The Fellowship are thwarted as they try to cross the mountain, so they are forced to go under it, through the Mines of Moria, home to relations of Gimli. When they get there, they are confronted by a tomb. Goblins have killed the Dwarves that lived there and desecrated the place. They are then set upon by Orcs, who have a cave troll. Having killed the troll, they make their way to the Bridge of Khazad-Dum. Here Gandalf falls into shadow whilst saving the others from a Balrog, an ancient beast. |

Having lost Gandalf, the Fellowship continue to Lothlorien, home to Galadriel. Here they can rest, but she shows Frodo what will happen if he fails in his quest.
She then bestows gifts on them, and they take boats that are given to them. They sail down the river, hoping to get to Mordor before the evil black riders, also known as Ringwraiths or the Nazgul, can catch them |

Boromir succumbs to his tempation, and tries to take the Ring. Frodo escapes from him, and tells Aragorn he must go to Mordor alone. Orcs attack the Fellowship, and Boromir dies trying to protect Merry and Pippin. This proves to be futile, as they are captured by the Orcs. Frodo sails away, and Sam goes with him, proving just how strong their friendship is. Aragorn, Legolas and Gimli, after giving Boromir a Viking funeral, go to rescue Merry and Pippin. |
